Born By A River’s Commitment to Accessibility

At Born By A River, accessibility is fundamental to how we create, communicate, and share our work. We aim to ensure that every aspect of our online presence can be experienced by as many people as possible. As part of this commitment, WCAG 2.1 AA recommendations have been followed to make our website usable with assistive technologies such as screen readers, incorporating ARIA labels, alt text, and semantic HTML throughout. We have brought the site as close as possible and are planning thoughtful design updates - such as adding homepage titles and ensuring complete alt text coverage - to continue moving toward full compliance.

Meeting the Standards

We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 AA), a globally recognized standard that helps ensure digital content is accessible to people with a wide range of abilities. As we build new pages and refine existing ones, we integrate accessibility considerations at every stage of design and development.

Navigating Our Website

  • Visitors can adjust text size for comfortable reading.
  • Color contrast ratios meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards to support low-vision and color-vision variations.
  • “Skip to content” links appear at the top of each page for users navigating by keyboard or screen reader.
  • Text alternatives are provided for visual and auditory information.
  • Most pages can be navigated using only a keyboard.

Watching Our Videos

  • All Born By A River videos produced as of November 2025 include captions. We are working towards downloadable transcripts, with audio-described versions of final release films available.
  • Third-party videos embedded on our site may not always include captions, transcripts, or audio descriptions.

Our website may link to or embed content created and managed by external organisations. Because this material is outside our control, it may not conform to WCAG accessibility guidelines.

Tracking Our Progress

Accessibility is an ongoing practice. As with many organizations maintaining large and evolving websites, not all sections of our site currently meet WCAG standards. Some older materials - including PDFs, videos, and articles - may still lack features such as captions, alt text, or proper reading order for screen readers. We are actively reviewing and updating these areas and appreciate your understanding as we continue this work.
